Discovering Buddhism - Samsara and Nirvana

2010 Class Dates: January 11, 18, 25, February 1 (Review and Quiz)
Practice Night: Monday, February 8

Investigate what "samsara" is and how we are stuck in it. Find out what "nirvana" is and how to achieve it. Develop the determination to be free from suffering and empower yourself with practical tools to deal with and eliminate disturbing emotions forever.
We enter the door of the Buddhist path when we honestly confront the reality of our self-created prison (SAMSARA) and become aware of our untapped potential for freedom and joy (NIRVANA). This heartfelt resolve to stop the recurring cycle of insecurity/dissatisfaction/angst/despair and attain lasting happiness is called renunciation - the first of the three principal aspects of the path to enlightenment.

Buddha illustrated the mechanism of cause and effect (of suffering and freedom) in a diagram popularly known as the Wheel of Life. This painting can be found near the doorway of every Buddhist temple in Asia. In this module we will discuss and meditate on the Wheel of Life/Twelve Links and learn how to use these profound instructions to catalyze our spiritual transformation.

Lama Thubten Yeshe, founding father of the FPMT, strongly encouraged his students to master the subject of the Twelve Links (of Interdependent Origination).

Experienced and newer students welcomed.
