Liberation Prison Project

Kadampa Center is host to a branch of the Liberation Prison Project here in North Carolina. LPP for short, it is a Tibetan Buddhist organization and social services project affiliated with FPMT. Since 1996 the project has supported the Buddhist practice of over 12,000 prisoners.

Liberation Prison Project offers spiritual advice and teachings, as well as books and materials to people in prison interested in exploring, studying and practicing Buddhism.

Active mainly in the US and Australia, the Project is established as nonprofit organizations in San Francisco and the Australian Blue Mountains. There are also branches in Spain, Mexico and Mongolia.

Ven. Robina Courtin is the Executive Director of Liberation Prison Project, and is based in San Francisco, CA. She teaches and works with people in prisons all over the world. In answering a letter from a young man in prison in California in 1996 the idea was born for this compassionate organization.

The local branch of this program is headed up by Herb Cunningham who, with other volunteers, visits local prisons on a regular basis teaching and leading meditation classes. Please contact Herb if you are interested in finding out more information.
