Community education classes will be scheduled for Saturday mornings in 2008. Watch for announcements in the News section. These classes are intended to support our individual efforts to address the practical challenges of death, aging and illness. Although they are designed with Buddhist principles and practices in mind, they are open to the public.
Dying with Compassion
Lack of interest in preparing for our own death is quite common. This
class offers some practical preparations to foster compassion for
ourselves and others around our own dying. Both guided reflections and
end-of-life resource information are provided. New updates and
information are available for those who participated in previous
sessions.
Sickness & Compassion
Some of us suffer from chronic disease. Others have survived traumatic
injuries, illnesses and surgeries. Some care for others suffering with
disease. As a result, we often experience enormous energy losses and
find our daily life reduced to "just maintaining". This class provides
tools to gentle the effects of suffering related to sickness and to help
us expand our hearts to create healing energies for ourselves, for those
who love us and for others who suffer as well.
Compassionate Aging
The older we are, the more apparent the reality of decline that comes
with aging. Along with this awareness comes insight into the value of
shifting life priorities. This class offers a series of structured
reflections and discussion to help us develop a compassionate view of
the challenges of aging as well as understanding the spiritual value of
having lived a long life.
